Your digital scanner and you.

September 2, 2016

As more and more dentists are taking the leap to digital scanning systems, it’s important to know how to get the most from their investment. Like any change in workflow, it takes some getting used to before it feels natural. Here are a few things you can do to become more comfortable with your digital scanner:

  1. Practice using your scanner - BEFORE the patient comes in. Don’t just wait to use your digital scanner on patients only. Scan your team, scan models, scan ANYTHING. Getting comfortable with your digital scanner and how it works means the difference between an accurate and quick scan and a lot of patient and doctor frustration.

  2. Talk to your dental lab – Here at ProSmiles Dental Studio we have experts trained with certain digital scanners and can help walk you through many common errors made when scanning. Your lab should be able to help you understand what kind of quality scan is expected to make things easier for everyone.

  3. Training – Take the time to make sure your team is trained and everyone has practiced scanning enough to feel comfortable. Have them scan each other and once again, continue to practice.

  4. Inform your patients. Let your patients know how digital impressions will improve their experience and also save time while being more comfortable than traditional impressions.

If you still haven’t gone digital for your impressions it may be a good idea to talk to your lab to find out how to best fit a scanner into your workflow. Besides offering training and support, your lab may be able to help you make the decision on what scanner will best suit your office’s needs.
